I agree about it being local and more so being tied to the community and having some “skin” in the game.

I think HyperLocal websites could be a game changer. Given social media it might be the way we turn America around.

TheDigitel.com is another one of these super small, hyperlocal sites. We’ve started in the lowcountry of South Carolina, and are branching across the state and into SC. Hyperlocal seems to be the way to go, every hyperlocal site we have come across has received great support, but just seems to need that extra push to get going.

Been trying the crack the code for making money with hyper-local.

my feeling is: great journalism may not see the light of day without the ability to pay the basic bills.

One thing that hyperlocal bloggers can do is provide the tools for connections to be made between readers, without having to be the conduit through which these connections pass.

Look for ways to get people to link up through services such as Ning, or discovery via Facebook and Twitter, this means the hyperlocal blogger becomes more than just a news source, they become an important part of the future success of readers.
